SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Our client is an early stage startup with an innovative idea that allows for easy consolidated online and on-demand scheduling of FAA-certified private chartered planes, which is an $8 billion industry, and there is no other online scheduling service that serves this market right now. The founder is a successful software entrepreneur, former CTO and commercial pilot, whose in-depth analysis of this industry helped him create a model that he is confident will be sustainable, with high growth and returns. So far, he has overseen development of the three components of the software (the front end customer interface, the back end CRM application, and flight management software), mostly outsourced, and it is now operational and in a limited beta mode. Now it’s time to bring in a CTO to take over ongoing development and to bring the software to a higher level for full public launch, while the CEO shifts his focus to marketing and operations. Your challenge is to inherit the existing beta system (Java, Spring, YUI, cloud-based and distributed) and to take ownership of the software product. You are an experienced CTO who has successfully created the technology vision and architecture strategy for a startup in the past. You ideally come from a SaaS or ASP company, and if you had experience in the travel world, that would be great. Most important is a passion for the solution, and wanting to be part of a startup aiming to claim a lucrative un-served market. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, someone who can manage, mentor and develop a team with caring and humanity, and a creative thinker and risk-taker who can get things done. The company is based in San Francisco, so you need to be local. You can work partly virtually at first, but as the company grows, you will need to be in the offices. Right now, the company is in the process of looking for a round of funding, so until that happens, we are looking for a candidate whose past success and entrepreneurial spirit lets them consider working for equity in lieu of a paycheck until that next round of funding closes.
