Our client is an early stage pre-funded startup with a fantastic cloud-based integrated solution to consolidating content from calendars, blog posts, Facebook updates, Flickr albums, Youtube videos
all the stuff that is out there disconnected right now will be consolidated into an easy-to-navigate timeline in one place.
The uses for this are many they have signed a major entertainment star who is going to use it for her concert calendar, so fans can post photos and comments that are connected to each event; they have a huge entertainment venue putting it into place for their events, and have consumer product companies ready to sign; and they have parents who are using it to create a central place for photos, videos and milestones of their babies so their families can see it all in one spot. Like all great products, there are many ways it will make a great difference.
The two founders are entrepreneurs who have had great success in digital entertainment and the mobile software world, and they began this company with a vision of creating a great solution and building the kind of company they want to work for. With a very low burn rate, they have built the first version, working with Ruby on Rails consultants and outsourcing development to a fantastic team in South America. So they have a solid foundation and some great people already involved.
The next step is to find the third person for their core team, a technical genius who can take over as hands-on technical lead the title is open and it could be CTO or VPE, but they definitely need both the big picture understanding of the technology and strategy, as well as the daily hands-on know-how and desire to build the infrastructure.
You are an experienced engineer who has built great Web 2.0 and cloud-based products with millions of end users. You have led developers who are programming in an agile methodology, and you are an expert with Ruby on Rails and know how to build a scalable high-performing multimedia Web 2.0 offering.
Required Skills Include:
5-10+ years of programming experience
2+ years leading teams (onshore and offshore)
2+ years of Web 2.0 product development.
AWS EC2 and S3; RoR / MySQL RoR / Postgres SQL
A deep expertise in systems engineering scalability and algorithms
An understanding of relational and non-relational databases
Experience implementing APEs, preferably REST
Real knowledge of Web 2.0 APIs like Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
AJAX front end development skills
An added plus would be Linux administration
Entrepreneurial passion and desire.
Right now, the company is looking for angel and seed money, and they have gotten this far through their own investments and careful monitoring of expenses. Until funding comes through, we need someone who shares the entrepreneurial spirit, and has the ability and willingness to come on in this key founder-level role getting equity in lieu of a paycheck for a few months.
